The Clatsop WORKS Program provides local students, ages 16 and up, with exposure to professional, paid internship opportunities in Clatsop County, with the goals of community building, economic development, promoting local career opportunities and retaining local talent.
To qualify, students must be currently enrolled at, or a recent graduate of, a Clatsop County High School or Clatsop Community College.
The Clatsop WORKS Paid Internship Program has positions available in many career fields. This internship program gives interns not only the opportunity to complete project-based internships, but to network with other companies, fellow peers, and learn professional skills from community leaders.

Bookkeeping Apprentice Intern (1 part-time position, 16 or older): you will be responsible for learning and assisting in daily operations of a bookkeeping department. This includes: keeping data organized, maintaining accurate records and filing in various types of electronic systems; checking inventory levels to ensure accuracy when making changes or updating information as needed

Community Development -Historic Preservation Intern (1 position, 16 or older): The Astoria Community Development intern will work with the Planning Division staff on public education and a customer survey. The City’s historic preservation program is administered through the Planning Division and helps to inform residents of the value of historic preservation both economically and socially. The Community Development Department is a central point for customer interactions and will be conducting a survey to obtain feedback on opportunities for improvement.
The intern’s tasks will include creation of materials for public consumption for the historic preservation program, primarily through the City’s website. A review of the Historic Preservation website for content and inconsistent information will be conducted and updated as appropriate. There will also be opportunities to attend the Historic Landmarks Commission public meeting and assist as needed. Second, the intern will create a customer survey by interviewing the Development Review team members individually to obtain feedback for questions and research different types of community surveys to help identify the most appropriate type. They will finalize the content and questions and create the survey.

Community Development Intern (1 position, 16 or older): This position will provide administrative/clerical support and would help with County Comprehensive Plan meetings which would include attending one or more daytime meetings, assisting with agenda preparation, research for background reports, map reference data entry, create float-house database.
City of Warrenton Marina Harbor, Warrenton
Office Assistant Intern (1 position, 18 or older): Under supervision of the Harbormaster and Marina Foreman, the duties will include primarily office work and restroom cleaning. Opportunities to learn about office management and marina operations. Front desk greeting customers, answering phones, guest moorage check in, providing visitors with information, filing, log book entries, restroom and sanitation. Weekends and overtime hours are required.

Administrative Assistant (1 position, 16 or older): Will shadow Executive Assistant/ Administrative Coordinator and Business Services Manager and will provide assistance to Terminal and Properties departments. Primary responsibilities will include answering the phone, checking mail and email, scheduling meetings, and providing general office support. Should also be prepared to assist with marketing. Must be a problem solver who can work dynamically to take on various tasks.
Astoria Police Department
Records Office Intern (1 position, 16 or older): The Records Office Assistant will work on a Digital Records Archival Project and will perform administrative support duties while being available to interact with the public in person, by email or by telephone. Administrative support duties will include tasks such as digitizing police records, data entry, and customer service.
Seaside School District, Seaside
District Support Specialist Intern (1 position, 16 or older): – Performs a wide variety of office support duties, provides administrative support, and systems support. This position manages daily work pressures, requiring constant concentration to a volume of work which must be completed within a limited period of time.
Lower Columbia Preservation Society, Astoria
Administrative / Marketing Intern (1 position, 16 or older): – Lower Columbia Preservation Society is a non-profit organization that seeks to preserve the history, sites and culture of communities bordering the Columbia River in Clatsop, Pacific and Wahkiakum counties. Our summer intern will be responsible for various administrative tasks including data-entry, filing, answering correspondence and preparing membership materials. Opportunities will be available to assist in the curation of events and displays, producing programming (including podcasts and videos) and participating in other marketing activities.
Cannon Beach Chamber of Commerce, Cannon Beach
Information Specialist Intern (1 position, 16 or older): – The Information Center Specialist is a high-profile position that demands a professional, energetic, efficient, and friendly personality. This staff member is primarily responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Visitor Center. The Specialist works with and is responsible to the Cannon Beach Chamber Office Manage and Executive Director. Employees at the Visitor Center have a set schedule and are expected to work weekends and during Chamber events as needed.

Service Express Lube Technician (2 positions, 16 or older): perform light maintenance and repairs which include lube, oil, and filter changes, balancing and rotation of tires and flushing cooling systems and is an entry-level position.
Mason Autobody, Seaside
Autobody Technician (3 positions, 16 or older with valid driver’s license): • Repairs vehicles per estimate and according to manufacturer standards. • Checks parts against estimate and ensures proper parts are ordered and received. • Prepares vehicles for body repair work • Repair, replace, and upgrade a variety of vehicle parts • Perform diagnostic tests to ensure that all issues have been detected and resolved before returning the car to the customer • Perform cost estimations before beginning jobs • Follow all workplace safety requirements • Prepare cars to be painted by sanding and refinishing • Notifies management of any additional repairs needed. • Notifies management of any difficulties or problems that may prevent a quality job from being performed or cause a change in the promised time. • Maintains tools and equipment in a proper state of repair. • Complies with all laws and regulations pertaining to paint, thinners and other hazardous materials. Cooperates and assists other personnel in the repair and prepping of vehicles. Operates all tools and equipment in a safe manner.

Autobody Technician Apprentice (2 positions, 16 or older with valid driver’s license): Our auto dealership is looking for an Auto Body Technician Apprentice to join our auto body repair team. In this position, you repair collision, weather, and other damage done to the body of vehicles. While most of your duties revolve around the body itself, our ideal candidate has some experience working with all the systems in a vehicle. We prefer you to have an associate degree in automotive technology but are willing to work with technicians with a vocational certificate and a willingness to learn multiple skill sets. You need good manual dexterity and physical stamina for this job.

Construction Technician intern (2 positions, 16 or older):
Level 1 Interns will have the opportunity to learn about the different facets of a construction company, from design to construction and how they work together while working as a general laborer. Interns between 16 and 18 years of age will have the opportunity to utilize a student/learner waiver to gain access to construction jobs and tools typically only allowed to those 18 yrs. old and above.
Level 2 Internships are available to those who want to expand and build on the knowledge learned as a level 1 intern.

Shop Attendant intern (1 position, 16 or older): Will perform duties that include cleaning, maintaining and organizing eligible construction equipment, tools and consumables as identified by BOLI as safe for minors to handle. Prepare tools and consumables for mobilization to the jobsites as well as organize returned tools and items from job sites. Maintains and ensures a clean and safe environment within the shop as well as light grounds keeping duties outside of the shop building.

Construction Laborer intern (1 position, 18 or older): Willingness to learn construction skills on-site, pass a pre-employment drug test and have a strong desire to work as part of a team. Fence Technician intern (1 positions, 16 or older): The intern will be responsible for supporting the fence lead on site with all necessary tasks to ensure full satisfaction with the design and quality of the project. Other duties as assigned and can include, but not limited to: yard organization, misc. yard projects, general cleaning, errands, truck up keep, etc. This job has a lot of heavy lifting, fast problem solving, and bad weather. Astoria Public Library
Library Intern (1 position, 16 or older): – Will work with Youth Services staff on Summer Reading programming and outreach. The intern’s tasks will include going with the Youth librarian on outreach visits, assisting with weekly programming for children ages zero through grade school, helping hand out reading logs and books, and other duties as needed. Additionally the intern may develop an individual project, based on their interests, that supports the library’s mission of developing early literacy skills in children zero to three, increasing school readiness, improving high school graduation rates, supporting families or reaching underserved populations. Possible projects include promoting the library through its social media platforms; planning, preparing and implementing STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, math) programming for youth; and outreach to underserved populations.
Columbia River Maritime Museum, Astoria
Museum Fellow- Intern (1 position, 16 or older): 10-week, 35 hours a week, fellowship assisting the museum with various tasks and projects. The position reports directly to the Education Director and is mainly within the Education Department of the Museum.
This position will engage with many different departments throughout the museum to gain experience in every aspect of museum work. CRMM is dedicated to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all to succeed. This job will occur indoors and outdoors, includes standing, sitting, reaching, carrying, and occasional travel with other employees. Accommodations for all aspects of this position are welcome. Research & Development Intern (2 positions, 18 or older): – Da Yang Seafood, Astoria based seafood processor, has retained the services of Aqua-Terra Consultants (ATC), the leading engineering and environmental consulting company specializing in seafood resource recovery and optimal utilization. ATC was recently awarded a US patent for a novel process water treatment system. The ideal intern will assist the inventor/principal engineer and the tech team as they conduct pilot testing, scientific research and continue developing their technology this season at the plant. This will be a unique learning opportunity for interns to participate at the ground level of a truly green project that seeks to maximize resource recovery, and develop beneficial uses for the recovered solids. Duties could be tailored to your interest and ability and could range from helping with process water testing, monitoring (data uploading & graphing) and sampling, to cleaning equipment and running errands around town for parts and supplies. Experience with spreadsheet software a plus, but a willingness to learn and an open mind is important. Potential full time employment when the full scale system is installed.

Knappa-Svensen-Burnside Rural Fire Protection District
Intern Firefighter (1 position, 18 or older): TWO YEAR Internship – Begins in the FALL
The intern firefighter position with Knappa-Svensen-Burnside Rural Fire Protection District is a two year training internship intended for a student who would like a career in firefighting. The intern will work / train at the Knappa Fire Station while also attending the fire science program at Clatsop Community College. Knappa-Svensen-Burnside RFPD pays for all schooling at the MERTS Fire Science program in Astoria (tuition, fees, books, etc), provides a vehicle for going to class, and a $300 per month stipend.
Under immediate supervision, the Firefighter Intern serves the department, community, visitors, business owners, and other City employees competently and compassionately. This position is designed to expose the intern to the Knappa-Svensen-Burnside RFPD and to provide training related to the duties and responsibilities of a Firefighter. In a training capacity, the Firefighter Intern operates and maintains firefighting tools and equipment; assists with training activities; participates in training activities; may assist with fire prevention inspections, may provide public education, and attends Fire Science classes at Clatsop Community College in pursuit of an Associate’s Degree.
Forestry / Lumber Mill Internships

- Internship is a 10 week program at the Sawmill – each week to include 2 days filled with learning about our industry and/ or professional development training; 3 days each week completing entry level duties to include clean up or fire watch.
- Clean up consists of shoveling sawdust, picking up wood debris, sweeping, using a back pack blower or air hose, weed eating, or other related assigned duties.
- Fire watch is wetting down and monitoring an area where hot work is being completed by the maintenance department.

ER Support Intern: (1 position, 16 or older) Providence Seaside Hospital is interested in providing broad work experiences for individuals interested in healthcare fields. Healthcare workplace experience will be gained by providing the intern opportunities to carry out specific projects and processes with the support of department staff. The intern will complete specifically identified office/department work assignments which provide additional value and enhancements to the normal functions of the department. Emphasis is placed on strong written and verbal communication skills, organization, and the ability to balance and coordinate multiple assignments. Intern will demonstrate exceptional customer service to both patients and visitors of Providence Seaside Hospital. Intern assists in projects by participating in maintaining documentation, organizing materials, and other tasks assigned by the manager/supervisor.

Clinic Support Intern: (2 positions, 16 or older) Assists the Clinic Manager and supervisor with the operations and activities of the Clinic. Assists Clinic Manager and supervisor to ensure that patient care services are provided in a timely, clinically sound manner which is sensitive to the patient’s physical, psychological, and spiritual needs. Assists Clinic Manager and supervisor to ensure that business office functions are performed in a timely and accurate manner.

Cancer Care Resource Center Intern: (1 position, 18 or older) Are you a people person who likes to socialize and has an interest in healthcare? Are you interested in making a difference and learning transferable hands-on skills? If so, this might just be the perfect internship for you! The Columbia Memorial Hospital Knight Cancer Collaborative is looking for an artistic, energetic, independent, student intern who has an interest in learning about health care patient well-being. The Intern will support patient wellness by: Assist in Locating Cancer Awareness Month materials, Help with setting up a Lending Library, Support patients in gaining access to computer resources, Create monthly event calendars, Coordinate activities and schedule classes.

Lab Department Aide Intern(1 position, 18 or older): –Perform phlebotomies and capillary blood collections from inpatients and outpatients, both on-site and off-site. Under the direction of the Manager, and/or Medical Technologist, processes and orders testing on specimens for reference laboratories, as well as performs CLIA waived laboratory testing. Responsible for keeping track of all specimens submitted to pathology. Maintains good public relations with the physicians and their staff, patients, and the public. Instructs patients on proper collection of both urine, as well as stool specimens. Collects nasal washings from outpatients. Collects urine specimens for urine pre-employment drug screens, utilizing a chain of custody. Responsible for front end laboratory compliance checking as well as following Medicare Medical Necessity rules. Monitors customer concerns and daily workflow.

Pharmacy Intern (1 position, 18 or older): – The pharmacy clerk intern will have a great deal of interaction with customers of the pharmacy. They will run the cash register to ring up purchases, stock shelves, and transfer customer questions to the appropriate staff. The pharmacy clerk will also order and receive stock and supplies, deliver medications, clean equipment and work areas, sterilize containers, and perform other duties under the direction of a pharmacist.

Customer Care Intern (1 position, 18 or older): – The Customer Care Representative (CCR) is responsible to accurately register patients for outpatient services and inpatient admissions and scheduling patients. The CCR is responsible for insurance verifications and co-pay collections. The CCR is knowledgeable about the organization to assist patients when needed. CMH Caregivers contribute to CMH success by providing exceptional service that is respectful, compassionate and customized to the individual’s needs by anticipating and exceeding expectations.

Parking Information Aide (6 positions, 16 or older): This internship position includes using a bicycle: bicycle patrol, provide directions and information to visitors, advising drivers of parking regulations, keeping track of available parking, issuing parking violation warnings and citations, appearing in court if parking citation is contested, assisting the fire department with traffic control, keeping daily log book, washing patrol vehicles, and other jobs as assigned. Marine Patrol Intern (1 position, 18 or older): The Marine Patrol Assistant will assist the Marine Patrol Deputy to enforce boating laws, investigate boating accidents, water- based search and rescue/recovery, vessel operation and conducting boat safety compliance checks. The assistant will patrol waterways in Clatsop county including the Columbia River, Pacific Ocean and area lakes and rivers. The assistant will assist the Marine Deputy with mooring the vessel and cleaning/maintenance of vessels, marine patrol equipment and facilities.

Library Intern (1 position, 16 or older): – Will work with Youth Services staff on Summer Reading programming and outreach. The intern’s tasks will include going with the Youth librarian on outreach visits, assisting with weekly programming for children ages zero through grade school, helping hand out reading logs and books, and other duties as needed. Additionally the intern may develop an individual project, based on their interests, that supports the library’s mission of developing early literacy skills in children zero to three, increasing school readiness, improving high school graduation rates, supporting families or reaching underserved populations. Possible projects include promoting the library through its social media platforms; planning, preparing and implementing STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, math) programming for youth; and outreach to underserved populations.

Habitat Stewardship Intern: (2 positions, 18 or older): The stewardship intern will be part of a two person field team and supported by NCLC’s stewardship staff members. The intern team will assist with monitoring and stewardship of NCLC’s habitat reserves in Clatsop and Tillamook Counties. Interns will also be responsible for supporting our stewardship volunteer program by helping to lead volunteer activities including invasive species management. All weed removal work will involve manual or mechanical treatment (i.e. non-chemical methods, including hand-pulling, hand tools, and weed whackers). Interns will support annual monitoring by documenting site visits in NCLC’s land management database. Some sites require canoe access and interns will need to be comfortable working near water in tidal freshwater systems. Additional duties may include assisting with database entry and management plan updates.

The ideal intern will assist the inventor/principal engineer and the tech team as they conduct pilot testing, scientific research and continue developing their technology this season at the plant. This will be a unique learning opportunity for interns to participate at the ground level of a truly green project that seeks to maximize resource recovery, and develop beneficial uses for the recovered solids. Duties could be tailored to your interest and ability and could range from helping with process water testing, monitoring (data uploading & graphing) and sampling, to cleaning equipment and running errands around town for parts and supplies.
