The Clatsop WORKS Program connects local students (ages 16 and up) with paid, professional internships in Clatsop County, offering hands-on, real-world experience in a variety of industries. These work-based learning opportunities help students build valuable job skills, explore career pathways, gain confidence, and develop professional networks — all while earning income and strengthening their résumés. By participating in internships close to home, students are empowered to envision a future in their own community.

To qualify, students must be currently enrolled at, or a recent graduate of, a Clatsop County High School, Clatsop County alternative or training school, or Clatsop Community College. Clatsop County home-school students may also apply.

The Astoria-Warrenton Area Chamber of Commerce serves nearly 600 local businesses and organizations -we work with every size and variety of business in nearly every sector of the economy. Disciplines required to operate this chamber include marketing, event planning and coordination, government affairs, diplomacy, retail operations, education, customer service, tourism management, bookkeeping, human resource management, content creation, communication, sales, and most importantly, leadership. Our successful intern candidate will show leadership traits and have a heart for service. Some of the work will be administrative (billing, processing payments, creating copy for ads and social media, polling, etc.) and some will be in service of member businesses, both in the office and out in the field. Our interns are encouraged to tell us in what areas they would like to grow their knowledge and experience. We can then find projects and work situations where they can do so. Museum & Archival Intern (1 position, part-time, 16 or older): – The Seaside Museum and Historical Society is home to a wide variety of exhibits and artifacts that showcase the history of Seaside and the surrounding area. The museum’s collection includes photographs, documents, artifacts, and other materials that tell the story of the town’s development from a remote beach village to a thriving tourist destination. The Intern will gain skills and experience in a variety of operational areas in the museum such as visitor services, outreach, exhibits, artifacts and participating in events. The focus for this summer will be building the archive of our photograph collection. The Intern will be trained on digitizing, scanning, organizing and preserving the photographic collections of the museum. Computer skills and organizational skills will be needed, but the museum will provide the specific training required to digitize the collection in the museum software.

Water System Operations Intern (1 position, part-time, 18 or older): Situated on the northwest coast of Oregon, overlapping unincorporated Tillamook and Clatsop Counties, the Falcon Cove Beach Domestic Water Supply District water system serves an approximate population of 200 people. The operations intern duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Collecting chlorine samples, Exercising water valves, Flushing fire hydrants, Monitoring and visual inspection of watershed/forest and reservoir Properties, Reading various types of meters (daily, weekly, monthly logs), Understanding of Geographical Information System (GIS) mapping software and use of Excel spreadsheets for data collection, Assisting the backflow inspector (locating meters, taking pictures, logs, etc.), and Performing asset inventory.
Parking Information Aide Officer Intern (Up to 5 positions, full-time, 16 or older): This internship position includes using a bicycle: bicycle patrol, provide directions and information to visitors, advising drivers of parking regulations, keeping track of available parking, issuing parking violation warnings and citations, appearing in court if parking citation is contested, assisting the fire department with traffic control, keeping daily log book, washing patrol vehicles, and other jobs as assigned. Police / Parking Intern (up to 3 positions, part-time or full-time, 16 or older): The intern will receive an orientation to the Seaside Police Department, including parking enforcement duties and visitor information. To experience all law enforcement areas of the department, the intern will be assigned ride-along time in dispatch and patrol divisions as an observer. HRAP Rocky Shore Interpreters: (2 part-time positions, 16 or older): The Haystack Rock Awareness Program is a stewardship and environmental education program whose mission is to protect the intertidal & bird ecology of the Marine Garden & Oregon Island National Wildlife Refuge at Haystack Rock through education. Interns will educate the public about intertidal and seabird ecology, interact with the public as an educator, sharing insights on different facets of the Haystack Rock Ecosystem, collect data and information for strategic use, complete daily data logs, assist in co-science surveys and other ongoing research efforts, rescue and transport injured wildlife, support school field trip programs, promote stewardship, redirect visitors engaging in prohibited activities, set-up and break down HRAP’s mobile education unit, and maintain equipment on and off the beach.
